Dear Parents:

It’s hard to believe that summer break is wrapping up so soon. As you’re getting your children ready for school, I want you to know how excited we are to have them back.

As a school district, we are committed to designing success for every student. The foundation of that success is a school culture where every student feels connected, safe, and cared for. If your children ever do not feel that way at school, please reach out to their teachers or principal to let them know. Together, we can create this culture for every student in our schools.

Student success means developing their confidence to help them to learn to read thoughtfully, to communicate clearly, and to solve complex problems. To fulfill that promise, we must work together to build a culture of literacy and learning for our children. I love the quote from Frederick Douglass, who escaped from slavery, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” His life inspired me to become a reading teacher. I believe that developing a love of reading and love of learning in students is the key to their success. To create that culture throughout our district, I would encourage parents (including myself) to take time to engage in reading activities with your children often.

Back to school nights, except for Bonneville Online Elementary, are scheduled for the following week from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. Individual schools may send you more specific information about Back to School Nights.

  • Elementary schools: Tuesday, August 20th
  • Middle schools: Wednesday, August 21st
  • High schools: Wednesday, August 21st

Also on the 2019-2020 school calendar, please note we have scheduled three (3) Fridays as teacher professional collaboration days. School will not be held for students on these dates:

  • Friday, August 30th
  • Friday,November 22nd
  • Friday, March 13th

One other key date to note is the school bond election on Tuesday, August 27th. On that date, patrons will be asked to vote on a proposal to fund a new elementary school and additions to Hillcrest and Bonneville High Schools. More information about the school bond election is available on the district’s home page, www.d93schools.org and in the included flyer. We will have open houses at Hillcrest and Bonneville on the evenings of Tuesday, August 20th and Wednesday, August 21st from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Please consider stopping by the high schools to ask questions and to see why the high school additions are being proposed.

If you are not a registered voter yet, please register at https://apps.idahovotes.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration. Every vote makes a difference.

On behalf of all of the employees of Bonneville School District 93, I want to let you know how excited we are to welcome students back and that we appreciate the trust you place in us every day. We are looking forward to a great year of learning with your students.

 Sincerely,

Dr. Scott Woolstenhulme
Superintendent
